NEW FOR 2014  This seminar will focus on concrete pavement design for both new pavements and overlays. Commonly used pavement types, terminology, subgrade and subbases, concrete materials, jointing and other topics necessary for an understanding of design methodologies will be covered. Three design methods will be highlighted including the AASHTO 1993 Pavement Design Method, StreetPave and the new AASHTO Interim Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Procedure. Information presented is intended to provide a working knowledge of the commonly used design methods for heavily trafficked and low volume roadways.

  1. Select the most feasible concrete pavement type for a specific situation
  2. Identify the most critical elements influencing the pavement design (used for design optimization)
  3. Generate a list of design elements that can be further refined for value engineering studies
  4. Develop “out-of-the-box” strategies to maximize pavement performance while minimizing costs
