TH136 - Proper Use of Stringless Slipform Paving Technology

Thursday, January 23 from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM | Room N223, North Hall, Las Vegas Convention Center « Back

NEW FOR 2014  Stringless guidance of slipform paving operations has quickly become commonplace in the U.S.  Whether your company has already invested in stringless technologies or you are considering doing so to increase the speed of pavement construction and improve construction quality, this session will provide the all-encompassing stringless slipform paving operations training you need to confidently leave the stringlines off of your next paving project.  The session will begin with a detailed discussion on the differences and the advantages/disadvantages of stringless slipform operations when compared to stringline slipform operations.  The focus then turns solely on stringless guidance, including a brief history of stringless guidance operations, details on working with 3D models of the pavement, identifying and understanding the purpose of each component in a stringless network, and construction best practices to ensure quality and consistency with your stringless slipform paving operation.

  1. Describe the differences between stringless- and stringline-controlled concrete slipform paving operations and how the fundamentals of machine control relate to each
  2. Explain the considerations in working with design data during the development of a 3D model of the pavement
  3. Identify the components of a typical stringless paving operation and explain the unique purpose of each component within the stringless network
  4. Describe best practices for quality construction when using a stringless slipform paving operation
