TU121 - Introduction to Concrete Part I: Concrete Materials and Technology

This session will begin by reviewing some basic concrete properties such as slump, strength and air content.  Concrete mixture proportions will be presented but the process of developing proportions will not be explained.  The majority of the class will be used to discuss concrete ingredients to include cementitious materials, water (including importance of water-cement ratio), aggregates and chemical admixtures.

  1. Discuss basic concrete properties
  2. Identify a set of concrete mixture proportions
  3. List and analyze the basic materials typically used in concrete
  4. Calculate and understand the importance of the water-cement ratio
