WE12 - Concrete Repair Fundamentals I: Surface Preparation, Reinforcement Repair, Material Selection and Placement

In this session, Attendees will learn more about selecting specific repair materials and ingredients for repairing deteriorated concrete surfaces. Proper material selection, material placing through the use of shotcrete and the use of formwork to cast repair materials will be covered. Bonding agents and the performance of bonding tests to ensure a quality repair will be discussed. Attendees will gain a basic understanding of repair material compatibility including drying, shrinkage, permeability, deformability and tensile strength. An evaluation of the latest equipment used to perform both preparation and placement of repair materials as well as an overview of the proper repair of corroding reinforcing steel will be included.

  1. Examine how to select specific repair materials and ingredients
  2. Discover the latest in equipment handling, preparation and placement of repair materials including placing materials pneumatically (shotcrete) and using formwork to cast repair materials
  3. Discuss the basics of repair material compatibility to improve the performance of repairs
  4. Determine when and how to use bonding agents and how to perform bonding and shoring plan tests to ensure a quality repair
