Charles Nmai, PhD, PE, FACI is Manager, Engineering Services within the Admixture Systems group of BASF Corporation
in Beachwood, Ohio. With over 25 years of experience in admixtures, high-performance concretes, concrete durability and troubleshooting, Charles has authored/co-authored numerous papers and lectures frequently. He is actively involved in technology transfer activities related to chemical admixtures and self-consolidating concrete (SCC), and he spearheaded the development of a comprehensive Federal Highway Administration training seminar on SCC to facilitate acceptance and use by State Departments of Transportation. Charles has been recognized for his outstanding contributions in the field of superplasticizers and other chemical admixtures. He is a Fellow of ACI where he serves on Committee 222, Corrosion of Metals in Concrete; Committee E 701, Materials for Concrete Construction; Committee 130, Sustainability; 201, Durability; and 363, High-Strength Concrete, and he is an honorary member of ASTM International where he currently chairs Subcommittee C 09.23 on Chemical Admixtures. Charles is a licensed engineer in Ohio and received his PhD in Civil Engineering from Purdue University.
